What's the meaning of "I put my foot in it"?
You may see the phrase somebody puts his foot in it somewhere. So what does it mean?
This means saying something accidentally which upsets or embarrasses someone. For example:
I put my foot in it the other day at Linda's house - I asked her if she was going to marry Simon.
